Karachi: TV man shot dead
KARACHI: An employee of a private television channel was shot dead Friday and his daughter was hurt when some unidentified assailants robbed them in the jurisdiction of Gulistan-e-Johar Police Station. Thirty-five year old Ziaullah Tariq Hashmi was going home to Sasi Homes on his motorcycle (KDK-7912) with his wife and two daughters. The first bullet grazed the head of his three-year-old daughter Tazneem Fatima and the second bullet hit him.
FIR No. 16/08 has been lodged on behalf of his younger brother, Ishtiaqullah. The complainant said that he was sleeping when Hashmi’s wife phoned him. He informed the police at 15. “When I reached the scene my brother had already passed away while my niece was writhing in agony. My sister-in-law and other niece were crying,” said Ishtiaq.
Ishtiaq told the police that the victims left their house at around 10:00 p.m. Thursday. They went to attend a relative’s wedding near Sakhi Hassan Chowrangi. They were on their way back to early Friday morning.
As they neared Kamran Chowrangi three men stopped them at gunpoint. One accused snatched their bag, which was full of jewelry, a mobile phone and cash, and opened fire while fleeing from the scene. Hashmi was shot in the heart and died on the spot. His wife has been in a coma since the incident took place. They were initially taken to Darul Sehat Hospital after which Fatima was shifted to Aga Khan Hospital.
Talking to Daily Times, Javaid Abbas, the area’s SHO, said that the deceased was an employee of a private television channel where he was working as an accountant. “The assailants might have been following the victims,” said Javaid Abbas. “We are trying our level best.” The SHO added that the investigation is in progress.
