Karachi: Police arrest 10 troublemakers after leader shoots himself
KARACHI: A policeman from the Muhaffiz Force and 10 troublemakers were arrested by the Peerabad Police after a brief encounter during which the gang leader shot himself. The accused were involved in looting a factory during the recent riots.
Tanvir, 25, alias Tanvira, who is a gang leader, has been wanted by the Peerabad police for a long time as he is known to have been responsible for more than 10 different crimes. The body of Tanvir was taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.
The accused arrested by the police include: Sajjad Ali Abbasi (a police constable of the Muhaffiz Force), Khan Aga, Gul Behram, Jamshed, Gul Jan, Bismillah, Saleem Khan, Jhandad, Abdul Rehman and Saifullh. Police claim to have recovered seven TT pistols from their possession. FIRs numbers 5/08, 6/08, 7/08, 8/08, 9/08, 10/08 and 11/08 have been lodged on behalf of the government.
Rustam Khatak, the area’s SHO, said that after getting a tip the police raided a vacant compound located in M.P.R Colony, Baloch Colony, Mungopeer Road.
“We cordoned off the compound and asked the accused to surrender. But, the accused said they would never surrender,” said Khatak. When they were asked to surrender for the last time, the accused opened fire on the police and in retaliation the police fired back. In the midst of all this Tanvir shot himself and died on the spot. Later, his accomplices surrendered.
Tanvir was the leader of this group for the last five years. He and his group were involved in looting citizens and factory workers. They were also involved in drug peddling. The policeman, Sajjad, was also involved with them.
