Islamabad: 459 cars stolen from the capital in 2007
ISLAMABAD: As many as 459 cars and more than 60 motorbikes were stolen from different areas of the capital during the year 2007 while only 55 stolen cars were recovered, according to police sources. People complained of police authorities’ negliegence in pursuing the vehicles’ recovery. A senior Journalist Waheed Khan Khakwani, whose vehicle was stolen from the parking area of Sunday Bazaar, Sector G-8 on July 22, 2007 said he visited the police stations for two months for the recovery of his car but to no avail.
Meanwhile, another senior journalist M Aftab said that his car was stolen on November 29 from one of the posh and safer areas of the capital in broad daylight. It has been noted that the target areas for the auto-thieves are Shalimar, Kohsar, Aabpara and Margallah police stations. The thieves mostly target small vehicles because they carry good market value.
