Lahore: Robber killed in shootout
LAHORE: A robber was killed and another was injured in a shootout, allegedly, with the police in Allama Iqbal Town police precinct on Monday. Reportedly, two men, Muhammad Riaz and Ghulam Murtaza, employed at a shop at Moon Market, Food Street were on their way home. When they reached near Kashmir Block, two robbers riding a rickshaw approached them and held them at gunpoint. The robbers snatched mobile phones, a watch and cash from them and tried to escape from the scene. Some passers-by, after seeing the robbers, started shouting for help.
It infuriated the robbers and they thrashed Riaz and Murtaza, injuring them. Meanwhile, a police constable, posted at the residence of Kot Lakhpat CIA DSP Imtiaz Ahmed Bhalli, after knowing about the incident rushed to the scene. When the robbers fired at the constable, he retaliated due to which one robber was injured. One of the robbers succumbed to his injuries on the scene and the injured robber was rushed to a nearby hospital. Later, the police arrested the injured robber, Muhammad Waseem.
The police later identified the deceased robber as Awais Ali. Waseem said after a ban on pillion riding, they started commuting on the rickshaw. The police have impounded the rickshaw (LOT 3258), looted property, a pistol and bullets from them. Capital city police officer, Additional IG Malik Muhammad Iqbal has announced Rs 10,000 as cash prize and a commendatory certificate for the police constable.
