Edhi office robbed in Kharadar
KARACHI: Two men robbed charity funds from an Edhi Foundation office in the jurisdiction of the Kharadar police station early Friday morning. Volunteer Muhammad Ramzan, in charge of the nightshift at the office, was sleeping when one a man calmly walked into the central information office of the Edhi Foundation at 6:40 a.m. asking for him. His accomplice remained outside on a motorcycle.
The two men managed to steal Rs 27,000 in charity money and Ramzan’s cell phone. There were four or five other foundation workers also present in the office while the robbers held the cashier hostage.
Narrating the events, Edhi Foundation worker Anwar Kazmi said, “One of the robbers had a TT pistol in his hand. He knew the staff of the foundation, because when he walked in the office he asked for Ramzan by his name.” The other workers at the office very innocently pointed out Ramzan at this stage and the accused pulled out a TT pistol and asked Ramzan to hand over the money.
Kazmi also informed that according to Abdul Sattar Edhi, the Foundation’s chief, all cash over Rs 5,000 should be deposited at the headquarters. “It was very a shameful incident because this foundation is working for the public, especially the poor. If the people treat us like this, how can we ever help anyone? We could not think that this will ever happen to us,” said Kazmi.
The area police said the office bearer of the foundation has refused to lodge an FIR on the robbery. However, the police have made an entry and an investigation is underway.
