Islamabad: Two held for extortion
ISLAMABAD: The city police have arrested two persons on the charge of extorting money from a citizen. Khalid Azam, the chief executive of a private company, told the police that the accused through phone calls and anonymous letters were threatening him and demanding Rs2 million.
He said he paid the accused Rs200,000 on January 14 at Sector G-81. However, on Friday night the accused again asked him to pay the remaining amount of Rs1.8 million.
The police asked the complainant to follow the instructions of the culprits and formed a team to arrest them. The team under the supervision of sub-inspector Abdul Sattar Baig caught the accused near the complainant’s house, when they arrived there to collect the money.
Meanwhile, the police said they have arrested 12 gamblers and recovered stake amount of Rs162,690, five vehicles, 14 cellphones, a wireless set and other valuables from their processions.
