Bank robbed in Gulshan
KARACHI: A private bank located in Junaid Plaza block 6 was robbed Monday within the jurisdiction of the Gulshan-e-Iqbal Police Station. The bank was open as usual when around four to five robbers broke in and stole more than 2.2 million rupees while holding the staff and clients hostage. Although more than 20 people including staff were present at the bank the robbers managed to escape.
According to bank manager Talat, the robbers entered and took repeater guns from the Police Foundation Security Company guards Kaleem and Rao Akhtar. “It seemed as if the security guards were involved and that the robbery was planned. The guards did not resist the robbers and easily gave the weapons,” he said.
Police reached the scene after Talat informed them. “I agree with the manager as the robbers had full details about the bank cameras and emergency alarm system,” said SHO Dost Muhammad.
According to Muhammad, security guards were involved in the robbery and had been arrested. “We suspect the guards involvement, if we had left them free we would have had trouble tracking them down if found guilty,” he said.
The police have registered FIR number 35/08 on behalf of the bank manager. Further investigations are in progress.
