Islamabad: Cop among two arrested for theft
ISLAMABAD: The police on Wednesday arrested a serving constable along with his accomplice and seized 47 mobile phone sets worth millions of rupees. The police eye more arrests on the way, saying intensive search for nine other members of the gang is underway. They said that special teams had been sent to Layyah and Sargodha for the arrests.
The police said the gang leader, Constable Abdul Hameed of Koral police station, was captured when he came on duty. Upon the constable’s information, his accomplice Nadeem was arrested and 47 mobile phone sets were recovered from him. The two were later shifted to the Shahzad Town police station for interrogation.
They are likely to be produced before a court of law for physical remand today (Thursday). Superintendent of Police (SP) Nasir Aftab said the arrested men were involved in many cases of robbery, theft, pick pocketing and mobile snatching reported in Rawalpindi and Islamabad.
