Karachi: Principal killed, professor kidnapped
KARACHI: A 70-year old retired professor Dr Zubeda Zakiya Abidi was kidnapped in Gulshan-e-Iqbal on Thursday. According to details, the professor was in her car, AGM-515 when she was kidnapped and her car was also stolen. Abidi is a single lady who lives alone. Since her kidnapping her driver, Ghulam Shabbir is also missing.
Her nephew, Shahid Abidi, came to visit her Thursday and noticed her gone. He reported the case to the police who registered an FIR, No. 55/2008. On initial search, the police found many valuables missing from Abidi’s home and suspect that the driver might be involved in the looting and kidnap. They are searching for the kidnapped lady and the missing driver.
A school principal was murdered by unidentified gunmen Thursday when while resisting an attempted robbery and car snatching.
Fifty-five-year old Shah Jehan Begum, a resident of L-511, Sector 5-C3, North Karachi, left her home in her car at the usual time of 8 a.m. for New Era English Medium School in Surjani town, said SHO Khwaja Ajmer Nagri police station Zulfiqar Qaimkhani.
She was stopped near her home by six unidentified men on two motorcycles who tried to steal her car, cell phone and other valuables at gunpoint. When she resisted they opened fire, injuring her. The robbers left with the stolen valuables, leaving the car behind. On receiving the information, the police arrived on the spot and immediately transferred her to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital in critical condition. She succumbed to her injuries Thursday evening. The police has registered FIR No. 31/2008 against the unknown individuals and begun investigations.
