Karachi: MQM activist killers caught, gang leader is ex-MQM
KARACHI: The Zaman Town police arrested three members of a countrywide dacoit group who had killed a Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) activist on January 28 while trying to steal his mobile phone. Following a lead, the police conducted a raid in Sector 48B, Korangi and arrested Munsib Abbas Shah, Abdul Rehman and Nadeem after a brief encounter. The group leader, Asif, managed to flee from the scene under the cover of fire.
Police claim to have recovered three TT pistols, 13 snatched mobile phones and 16 buffalows from their possession.
SHO Asif Munawar said that the accused were from the Punjab, except for Asif. He is a resident of Korangi No. 5 and was also an MQM activist, said the SHO, adding that he was kicked out of the party. The accused also confessed that they had been involved in more than 250 cases of looting, Munawar claimed.
The accused are also wanted by the Punjab police and that’s why they fled from there and came to Karachi.
On January 28, 28-year-old Wajid Ali, who was an MQM activist, was putting up party banners. They tried to steal his mobile phone and Ali, who was also a resident of Korangi, recognized Asif. ‘We didn’t indent to kill Ali. But, Ali recognized Asif so we had to,’ they told the police.
