Lahore: Police questioning armed suspect held from Nawaz rally
LAHORE: Law-enforcement agencies are questioning a man who was held carrying a handgun from near the stage where Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz chief Nawaz Sharif was addressing a public meeting in Taxila. A senior police official said the suspect had been shifted to an undisclosed location in Rawalpindi where the Crime Investigation Department and a police team were interrogating him.
He said the arrest had not been made public so far. An interrogator identified the man as Waheed, a resident of Taxila. Waheed had told police that he was carrying a 30-bore pistol to protect himself because he feared an attack from his “enemy”, the police official said, but police doubt his claim. The gun had been loaded, he said, and he could easily have killed anyone.
