Rahim Yar Khan: Customs men using a car illegally
RAHIM YAR KHAN: The District Excise and Taxation Department has detected an unregistered car being used by some Customs officials.
Excise inspector in-charge Muddasir Iqbal stopped a Land Cruiser bearing a green number plate (RNJ-7014) near Sabzi Mandi, Sadiqabad. On investigation, the car occupants introduced themselves as Ghulam Asghar, inspector Central Customs Department, and hawaldars Shaukat Ali and Arshad Ali who flashed their official cards but could not produce the registration documents.
They informed Muddasir Iqbal that the number plate was issued to the vehicle from the Customs House in Multan. On checking, it transpired that the number had been allotted to a motorcycle in Rahim Yar Khan. Assisted by a team, the excise official sent the Customs officials to the Sadiqabad city police station. The police registered a case.
An excise official, requesting anonymity, told Dawn that on the intervention of the Customs high-ups, the officials were allowed to go with the car.
