Karachi: PPP candidate in custody for alleged nazim kidnapping
KARACHI: Sohail Sam Dehelvi, a PPP candidate for PS 99, District Central, and PPP’s Central Senior Vice President Abdul Jabbar were remanded Friday to the custody of the Bilal Colony police station till February 11 by Judicial Magistrate Central Khushi Muhammad.
They were booked in three FIRs (24, 25 and 26 of 2008) by the said police station under sections 365, 353, 337, 392 and 504 of the PPC and were charged for kidnapping and holding UC 8 Nazim Muhammad Ismail hostage.
Zafar Siddiqui, a PPP candidate for NA 243, was also nominated in these FIRs and, as per police papers, is currently an absconder. Attempts are being made to arrest him, the remand papers from the police stated.
The Bilal Colony police station also lodged FIR 272008 on a complaint by Suleman, son of Usman, an injured PPP worker who sustained a bullet injury while unidentified gunmen were firing.
The absconding accused, Zafar Siddiqui, told Daily Times that the PPP’s joint central office was attacked and two of the attackers were nabbed along with a vehicle, which the UC 8 nazim was in. He was later shown as the alleged victim, he added.
“Our office was attacked, our men were injured and false and fabricated cases were registered against us,” he maintained, adding that a huge rally, held a few days ago, may have invited these attacks from rivals because there is a one-on-one contest in these two constituencies (NA 243 and PS 99).
