Lahore: ‘Nine of Shabir Gang arrested’
LAHORE: The Criminal Investigation Agency (CIA) City Division on Sunday said to have busted an inter-district gang involved in robberies and street crimes, and recovered valuables worth Rs 700,000 from them.
CIA officials said they had arrested nine members of the gang and seized illegal weapons from them. The accused had confessed to 62 such crimes in Lahore and Gujranwala during the preliminary investigation, the officials added.
They said Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) and Additional Inspector General Malik Muhammad Iqbal had directed Deputy Inspector General Tassaduq Hussain to take strict measures for curbing robberies and street crimes. A special team, headed by Superintendent of Police Masood Aziz, was constituted for this purpose. The team collected information about Shabir Gang and arrested its nine members on a tip-off. The police said the criminal had used rented motorbikes in crimes. The accused shot dead a minor, Zainul Abideen, in Gujranwala last year during an attempted robbery, the police added.
The CIA officials said Islampura, Misri Shah, Garhishahu, Samanabad, Race Course, Badami Bagh, Lorry Adda, Manga Mandi, Lower Mall and Lohari Gate had been the hunting areas for the criminals. They said they had recovered eight motorbikes, 15 mobile phones, Rs 50,000, five pistols and bullets from the arrested.
The arrested were identified as ringleader Shabir Ahmed, Zafarullah, Sher Agha, Jan, Abdul Rauf, Waseem, Usman Ali, Shahbaz and Naeem. The CCPO has announced cash prizes and certificates for the raiding team.
