Mirpurkhas: PPP activist killed
MIRPURKHAS: A PPP worker was killed and two others were injured when party workers and supporters were fired upon after a Pakistan Muslim League-Q procession was pelted with stones at Pakka Mor near Kunri on Monday.
Umerkot and Kunri towns were closed following the incident.
Sources said that a PML-Q procession was passing through the Pakka Mor area when villagers pelted it with stones. It led to an exchange of hot words between PML-Q activists and villagers followed by indiscriminate firing by unidentified people. As a result, Pakistan People’s Party worker Mubarak Chandio was killed and Abdul Hussain Chandio and Din Mohammad Chandio were injured.
The police took the body and those injured to the Umerkot Civil Hospital where Din Mohammad was admitted. Abdul Hussain was referred to Hyderabad due to his serious condition.
According to unconfirmed reports, two other people were also injured in the firing but they were not taken to any government hospital.
As the news of the incident spread, frightened shopkeepers pulled their shutters down in Kunri and Umerkot towns. Hundreds of PPP workers and supporters, led by party candidate for PS-70 Umerkot Ali Mardan Shah, staged a protest demonstration outside the Kunri police station and burnt tyres.
