Karachi: Cop, bystander hurt in encounter
KARACHI: A head constable (HC) of the North Nazimabad Police Station and one bystander sustained bullet injures Thursday during an encounter with robbers. Area residents informed the on-patrol Paposh Nagar Police Post In-charge ASI Mohammad Ashraf that some robbers are trying to loot people by stopping their cars near the Matric board office.
The robbers opened fire when the police arrived at the scene. Talking to the Daily Times, SHO Salman Waheed said that the robbers were on a motorcycle and were trying to flee from the scene under the cover of fire when the police arrived. Head Constable Raja Emran and Constable Raheel were at the Jinnah University and intercepted the robbers there. Waheed said that the robbers fired at the police, due to which Emran and a pedestrian named Zaar Khan sustained two bullet wounds. When Raheel returned fire, one of the attackers sustained bullet injures but they still managed to flee. Police recovered a TT pistol that the attackers dropped when the police fired at them. “PC Raheel had to hold fire because the girls of the university came outside,” said SHO Waheed. “Initially, Emran was rushed to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital but was later shifted to a private hospital and the residents of the area and the police covered all the expenses of his treatment.” There have been around 38 encounters in this station in three years, of which Emran has been present in 13, claimed the SHO.
