Lahore: IG suspends officials over criminal’s escape from custody
LAHORE: Punjab Police Inspector General (IG) Dr Syed Azhar Hassan Nadeem on Saturday, taking serious notice of the escape of an alleged criminal from police custody, suspended the staff of the Sadar Police Station, Mianwali.
According to an official handout, accused Aamir Ejaz was sent to the police station in connection with a case, and was to be produced in a court. He was locked up along with two other accused. On Friday nigh, the accused fled after breaking the roof of the lockup.
At this, the IG took disciplinary action against the police officials for showing negligence in performing their duties and suspended the station house officer (SHO) along with other staff of the said police station.
SHO Badar Munir, the duty officer, Sub-Inspector Noor Muhammad, Moharrar Zia Ullah, Night Moharrar Liaqat Ali and constables Khuda Bakhsh and Arif Abbas have been suspended and arrested. Mianwali District Police Officer Malik Abdul Aziz has constituted a special team for the arrest of the escaped accused.
Five ‘gangsters’ arrested The Criminal Investigation Agency, Sadar Division, claim to have arrested five members of a criminal gang and seized looted property from them on Saturday.
According to an official handout, the members of Zulifqar alias Bholi Gang were nabbed by a special team on a tip-off. The police recovered Rs 5,000, two mobile phones and computers from the arrested.
Around six cases have also been traced against them in various police stations of the city. The arrested were identified as Zulfiqar alias Bholi, Tariq, Javed, Ashiq and Adil. The accused have confessed to 10 such incidents during preliminary interrogation. Capital City Police Officer, Additional IG Malik Muhammad Iqbal has announced cash prizes and certificates for the police raiding team.
