Lahore: Police bust four gangs of robbers
LAHORE: Deputy Inspector General (DIG-Investigations) Tasadduque Hussain said on Monday that the Lahore police had busted four gangs of criminals and arrested 46 of thier members.
Addressing a press conference, he said the accused were involved in various incidents of murder, kidnapping for ransom, highway robbery, police encounters and street crime.
He said, a team traced a gang of criminals and arrested 22 of its members. The gang had allegedly killed Sarwar, a trader, in Badami Bagh police precinct on January 5 during a dacoity attempt. The gang also allegedly shot a police constable, Agha Muzamil Khan, who was injured in Harbanspura when he tried to arrest them. Another team traced two gangs involved in house and highway robberies.
A third team arrested 12 members of a gang involved in murder and kidnapping for ransom cases. The accused had killed one Omer Maqsood. They also kidnapped a sub-division officer for ransom and killed him. Another team arrested three criminals involved in highway robberies. A criminal of this gang, Naveed alias Needa, was killed in a police encounter on March 6 on Chunian Road when he tried to rob a passenger coach. The Ravi Town division police arrested three gangsters who had shot a mobile shop owner dead in Badami Bagh area.
