Karachi: ST sector office set on fire
KARACHI: Lines Area was tense on Wednesday after a sector office of the Sunni Tehreek (ST) was set on fire. There was an exchange of firing between activists of the ST and Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM). According to ST central leader Shahid Ghauri, some MQM activists set the ST sector office, within the jurisdiction of Brigade Police Station, on fire.
“Such incidents do not only occur in Lines Area, rather, every area of the city where MQM fears the entry of the Mohajir Qaumi Movement-Haqiqi (MQM-H),” said Ghouri. He said that along with ex-MQM-H activists, former Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) members are also a part of the ST.
MQM spokesman Abdul Qudoos, however, denied Ghauri’s assertions. “We are investigating the incident and will inform the media after ascertaining the facts,” he said.
Talking to Daily Times, SHO Tahir Khan said that the ST and MQM are blaming each other for the blaze. However, he stated that the situation in the area has normalized and investigations into the incident are underway.
