Karachi: Oct 18 accused to sue Sindh govt
KARACHI: The detention of Qari Saifullah Akhtar Arian, the alleged mastermind of the Karsaz blasts, under the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) by the Sindh government would be challenged before the High Court of Sindh (SHC), said his lawyer Hashmat Ali Habib here on Thursday.
Addressing a crowded press conference at the SHC’s cafeteria consultation rooms, Habib said that under the law no person could be detained under the MPO if he were in custody at a time when the orders were passed. The detenue has no connection with Sindh as he neither lives nor works here, which is why it is a wild allegation that if he were free he would be a danger to public peace. This was just aimed at making him the scapegoat and to make it appear that the case has been solved, his lawyer said. He vowed to sue the government and officials of Sindh and Punjab who issued the detention orders. Distributing copies of the book written by Benazir Bhutto, Habib said that he intended to sue the parties for US$200 million.
