Rawalpindi: Internet club owner tortured
RAWALPINDI: A medical board on Friday confirmed that Yasir Rashid, who was arrested on March 25 by the Banni police for allegedly playing X-rated movies at his Internet club, had been tortured in custody.
Rashid was released on bail on March 26 and the next day he appeared in the court of Civil Judge Muhammad Wajid Hussain Mughal, claiming that the police had tortured him.
The court appointed a three-member medical board, comprising doctors from District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital, to ascertain the facts. The board confirmed the torture in its report, which had been sent to Rawal Town Police Superintendent (SP) Khurum Shahzad for further inquiry.
The report, seen by Daily Times, mentioned that torture had left marks on Rashid’s back, heels and legs.
It said, “The medical board is of unanimous opinion that the injuries (on Rashid’s body) are not self-inflicted, however circumstantial evidence should be taken into consideration.”
Police sources said that the SP had summoned Banni police officials for their response to the medical report. They said Banni Police Station House Officer (SHO) Sheikh Sohail did not turn up at the meeting. The SP said that it was yet to be inquired that Rashid was tortured in police custody, where he had spent a day hardly. He said an action would be taken against those found involved in torturing Rashid.
