Constable shot dead in Quetta
QUETTA: A policeman was shot dead in the provincial capital by unidentified persons on Saturday, according to police. The police said unidentified persons gunned down a police constable, Syed Jamil Shah, on Saturday morning in the Saddar Police Station area. He had stopped at a shop adjacent to the police station when unidentified persons shot at his head.
The injured constable was initially taken to Quetta’s Civil Hospital, but when his condition worsened he was shifted to the Combined Military Hospital in the city’s Cantonment area. However, Shah died of his injuries after being treated for several hours in the emergency ward. The Saddar Town police said they had registered a case against the unidentified attackers and were searching for the culprits. No group has accepted responsibility for the murder, however.
Baloch nationalists in Quetta have targeted police personnel for the past several months. Several policemen, mainly those from the traffic police, have lost their lives and many have been injured.
