Karachi: ANP, MQM clash
KARACHI: Two vehicles were burnt and a bus driver was injured Sunday afternoon in a clash between workers of the Awami National Party (ANP) and the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) within the jurisdiction of Sachal police station.
According to ASP Abdul Salam Sheikh, a speeding truck, LSA-2471, hit a motorcyclist at Gulzar-e-Hijri police station near Farhat Center on the Super Highway. He explained that some MQM workers came on the road and burned the truck.
Also present at the scene were ANP workers who opened fire on the MQM. During the crossfire they burned tires and injured Ilyas, the driver of bus, PE-5021, of route No. 17-G.
Sheikh also said that during the clash both parties kidnapped each other’s workers. “Tear gas and baton charging could have created more problems. Therefore, we decided to create a compromise by calling the local leadership,” said Sheikh. He also revealed that both parties let go of each kidnapped person. The injured motorcyclist had even left the scene before the skirmish.
