Quetta: 8 die in shootout between militants, security forces
QUETTA: At least eight people, including three security forces personnel and five alleged smugglers, died on Saturday in a fierce gun battle in the Pak-Iran border town of Dalbandin, in the Nokshi district of Balochistan, unofficial sources told Daily Times.
Sources said that the five men were ‘smugglers’ who had crossed over from Iran. A local source said that the security forces had launched the operation against ‘smugglers’ in the Kili Qasim locality after receiving reports of their presence.
Another independent source added that the fighters were not smugglers but members of a banned Iran-based Baloch nationalist-cum-religious militant organisation Jundullah.
The forces apparently received intelligence that Jundullah organisation head Abdul Malik Regi was staying at a local’s house. The operation commenced at midnight on Friday and was still underway on Saturday evening. It was learnt that 20 other militants were still present in the area.
The personnel were identified as Miran Gul, Muhammad Hanif and Jamrooz Khan. During the battle, the forces also seized a large cache of weapons.
An FC press release issued on Saturday evening confirmed the death of its three personnel.
