Lahore: Man accuses policeman of killing his sister-in-law
LAHORE: The brother-in-law of a 50-year-old widow who was found dead at her residence in the Akbari Mandi police precinct on March 30, has accused an inspector of the city police of being responsible for the murder.
Ashraf, the brother of victim Shahjahan Heera’s husband, Muhammad Arshad, on Sunday alleged that a police inspector at the Akbari Mandi police station, known only as Butt, was behind the killing.
He alleged that the inspector had close ties with the deceased woman and used to visit her often. He said that according to his information, the deceased was going to marry the said inspector.
Ashraf said that the deceased was a rich woman from India, and had come to live in Pakistan after marrying his brother. He said she had been living alone in the city for the last seven years, after the death of his brother.
Some locals of the area said that the deceased woman had rented out two portions of her three-storey building, and used to give loans to locals against interest.
Her neighbours told Daily Times that they witnessed some unidentified people leaving her residence on March 30, leaving the entrance door open. They said that they visited the deceased’s house and found her dead, upon which they contacted the police.
Akbari Mandi police station investigation officer Inspector Fazal Hussain denied the involvement of any policemen in the case and said that investigations were underway. He said that the police would probably receive the autopsy report today (Monday), which would clear up several outstanding questions.
The Nolakha Circle deputy superintendent of police said that police had interrogated some locals regarding the case. He said that the police had also recovered two diaries containing names which would help in solving the case.
He said that they had been informed of the victim’s bank details and would check the final transactions. He said that initially it looked as if the woman was killed over interest issues on loans, or by her relatives in an attempt to acquire her property.
