Karachi: Toll 50 since Feb 18 MQM, MQM-H men killed Monday
KARACHI: An activist each of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) and Mohajir Qaumi Movement-Haqiqi (MQM-H) were killed Sunday night and Monday morning during separate shoot-outs. Five more workers of political parties have been killed over the last six days; the death toll by Monday, since the elections, rose to 50.
Thirty-three-year old MQM activist Mohammad Abbas alias Mada’s body was found in Baldia No. 3. He was shot dead, according to DSP Shafi Rind. Mada’s three brothers Siddiq Buja, Yaqoob Mada and Ghaffar were also killed earlier. Nearly eight cases, especially of gambling, were registered against him. He was also arrested and after his release started running a pan shop and snooker hall.
According to DSP Rind, the family was enemies with a rival Chand group in the area but this was not mentioned in the FIR that was registered against unidentified people.
MQM-H activist shot dead Earlier, the MQM-H’s Akhtar Hussain claimed that party worker Sabir, 28, a rickshaw driver, was gunned down on Sunday at sector 36-B, Landhi. Some unidentified men along took the body. “We have heard about it. We also checked the scene and hospitals. But the police could not get any information about Sabir’s murder,” said Korangi Town SP Farrukh Bashir.
