Lahore: Nine-month-old baby dies of burn injuries
LAHORE: A nine-month-old kid died of burn injuries in Shibli Town in the Sanda Police precinct on Monday. The mother alleged that her brother-in-law and his wife had burned the baby. Humaira Razzaq told the police that she was in kitchen along with her father Razzaq, and her nine-month-old son, Usman, was in his cradle in another room.
On hearing her son’s cries, she said, she had rushed to the room, and found her brother-in-law, Muhammad Ramzan, and his wife, Sonia, coming out of the room with matchboxes in their hands. She said Usman was rushed to a nearby hospital, but the doctors shifted him to Mayo Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries late on Monday night. The police have sent the body to the city morgue for an autopsy and arrested Ramzan and Sonia. Sanda Police Station House Officer (SHO) Masood Baig said there were several loopholes in Humaira’s statement. The SHO said Usman had been burned and admitted to the hospital two days ago, but neither Humaira nor did her father contact the police. He said that on Monday, Humaira’s lawyers had approached police with the court orders to register a case. Muhammad Aslam, Humaira’s father-in-law, said the allegations against his son and his daughter-in-law were false and that they would soon get bail from the court. He said Humaira told the police that she and her father had rushed Usman to a nearby hospital, but it was her lawyer who rushed Usman to the hospital. At that time, he said, Abdul Razzaq was not present there. Humaira and her father Razzaq did not comment on the issue.
