Irresponsible’ ASI suspended, DSP recommended for transfer
LAHORE: An assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of the Lorry Adda police has been suspended, while recommendations have been sent to Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Malik Muhammad Iqbal to transfer the Badami Bagh circle supervisory police officer to another district on charges of dereliction from duty, irresponsible attitude and poor performance during a rescue operation.
Senior Superintendent of Police (Operations) Farooq Mazhar Khan on Thursday suspended ASI Shahbaz Khan and recommended a departmental inquiry against Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Mian Riaz Ahmed and his transfer to another district.
On April 14, the SSP had ordered the DSP and his staff conduct a rescue operation at Madina Chowk, where a building caved in and four people died. The DSP and an ASI, after reaching the spot, started smoking and gossiping instead of handling the situation. A photographer of a local newspaper photographed their activity and published it.
Four policemen suspended Capital City Police Officer, Additional Inspector General (AIG) Malik Muhammad Iqbal on Thursday suspended four officials including a sub-inspector of the Barki police station (Investigation Wing) on charges of keeping a citizen in illegal confinement.
According to a statement issued on Thursday, the AIG has directed the senior superintendent of police (administration) to take departmental action against the accused.
Complainant Muhammad Ashraf Khan submitted an application to the AIG, stating that the police officials arrested him and kept him in illegal detention. The SSP (discipline and inspection) conducted a detailed inquiry into the matter in which the allegations were proved to be true. Therefore, the AIG suspended Sub-Inspector Muhammad Nawaz and constables Zaheer Ahmed, Muhammad Jameel, and Muhammad Khalid.
