Rape of 8-month pregnant woman: Police and Gulab Devi Hospital admin lock horns
LAHORE: The police and the Gulab Devi Hospital administration have locked horns over the gang rape of an eight-month pregnant woman. The police said the hospital administration had not informed them about the incident and they registered a case on their own. The hospital administration said there was no possibility of gang rape as the crime scene was crowded.
Two out of five accused in the police’s custody have confessed to rape the woman. The police said it would be premature to say something before the medical reports. On Saturday night at 8:15pm the Naseerabad police registered a case against five men after one of the accused, Majid, had confessed to rape the woman along with his accomplices on the hospital’s premises.
Gulab Devi Hospital Deputy Medical Superintendent Doctor AS Bhatti said circumstantial evidences showed that a woman could not be raped at such a crowded area. He said the victim’s husband told the hospital administration that his wife was alone when she was raped. Later, he said, he (victim’s husband) had told the police that he was along with his wife. Naseerabad police Station House Officer Amir Saleem said a police team had arrested 12 men from the hospital on the victim’s statement. Naseem, the victim, was admitted to the hospital 25 days ago. Three armed men on Friday evening allegedly raped her when her husband took her for a walk in the backyard of the hospital.
