Rawalpindi: Five outlaws arrested, valuables recovered
RAWALPINDI: Banni Police have arrested five members of a gang allegedly involved in street crime. Three accused were still at large. Police also seized two motorbikes, 19 mobile sets, a laptop, five pistols, 25 rounds, ATM and mobile cards.
Addressing a press conference on Saturday, City Police Officer (CPO) Saud Aziz said Superintendent of Police Khurum Shahzad supervised the team, which conducted raid against the criminals on Friday night. He said incidents of street crime had increased during last 15 to 20 days.
Those arrested included Arshad Mehmood, Muhammad Nadeem, Ghulam Abbas, Khurram Shahzad and Abdul Qadeer, he said, adding three other members of the gang Asif Mehmood, Shahid and Taimoor were still at large.
Aziz said 20 cases were registered against Khurram Shahzad with police, 12 cases of street crime against Arshad Mehmood and eight cases were registered against Ghulam Abbas, but they were released on bail.
He said over 100 police officials had been deployed each in 24 police stations of the city to strengthen security and overcome incidents of street crime. He said every possible effort would be made to protect the lives and property of the citizens.
Aziz said steps were being taken to restore people’s confidence in police and make the general public realise that protection was the prime responsibility of the police.
