Gujar Khan: 18 outlaws arrested
GUJAR KHAN: As part of the ongoing crackdown on anti-social element, the local police have arrested 18 people after seizing drugs, arms and fireworks from them, City Police Officer (CPO) DIG Saud Aziz said. The DIG said over 4kg Charas, two pistols, one 44–bore rifle, one Kalashnikov, one carbine and 101 rounds were seized from the possession of the outlaws.
He said dumping of explosives and fireworks in residential areas was a big threat to the lives of the citizens, adding that the Gujar Khan police raided a house in the city area and recovered huge quantity of fireworks and explosives. The owner was arrested and a case was registered against him.
In another incident, a gamblers’ den was raided and five persons were arrested. Money and other valuables put on stake were also confiscated.
Weapons were seized from six reveller who were firing in the air during a marriage function in Gujar Khan city.
According to Mr Saud, six persons possessing sizable quantity of narcotics were also rounded up by the police.
Meanwhile, the police issued warning to traders dealing in the sale of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), directing them to shift their businesses out of the congested commercial and residential areas.
Saud Aziz said no unlawful activity would be tolerated and the outlaws would be dealt with iron hand to ensure maintenance of law and order. shop ‘looted’ A cellphone shop in the city was allegedly looted by a gang of robbers during the wee hours of Saturday, police said.
Faisal Rehman told the police that some armed men overpowered the security guard at the shop and snatched his shotgun.
They broke into the shop and decamped with cellphones worth more than Rs3.5 million, he claimed. Later in the day, a group of local traders marched up to the police station and expressed their anger at the dacoity incident.
