CHAKWAL: Additional District and Sessions Judge Mushtaq Elahi Bingi on Friday visited sub jail Chakwal and ordered to release some 21 prisoners involved in petty crimes. These prisoners were released on their personal bail bonds.
RAWALPINDI: Regional Directorate of Anti Narcotics Force (ANF), Rawalpindi, has arrested a woman and a Nigerian national for drug trafficking and seized 10 kg heroin from their custody, said a press release issued on Friday. Shahnaz Shahzad was arrested from Islamabad International Airport on Thursday with three kg heroin in her suitcase. During investigation, she revealed that the heroin was handed her by Enenmuo Chetanna Dave, a Nigerian national, residing in Rawalpindi.
VEHARI: The autopsy report of the seven-year-old blind student, Atif, who died after being subjected to corporal punishment allegedly by a seminary teacher here on Thursday, has confirmed that the victim was tortured severely which led to his instant death.
TIMERGARA: A bomb blast at a CD centre at Amandara in the suburbs of Malakand early Friday morning badly damaged four shops, officials of the Malakand Levies said. The blast occurred at 4am. No loss of life was reported. The Malakand Levies have registered the case and started investigations.
LAHORE: Unidentified robbers robbed cash, jewellery and mobile phones from an Army brigadier and his wife at gunpoint in the Sattukatla police precinct on Friday. The police said Brigadier Tahir and his wife had returned home, and were waiting for the main gate to open when three unidentified motorcyclists approached them and snatched jewellery, cash and mobile phones from them. The police have registered a case and started investigating the matter.
KARACHI: In a successful rescue bid, the Model Colony police arrested two women of a beggar gang and freed three handicapped children who had been kidnapped by professional child-lifters and sold to this gang, even as the gang leader managed to escape.
KARACHI: Unidentified armed men killed on Friday night a former activist of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) within the jurisdiction of the Sharifabad Police Station. The deceased, Faisal, 22, was shot dead near his residence at Gharibabad, said SHO S.M. Raza. His body was taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. Soon after his marriage a year and a half ago, he was arrested on charges of robbery and was released from jail recently. Quoting the deceased’s mother, the SHO said that he had had a dispute with his in-laws and his family claims that his in-laws killed him.
KARACHI: The body of a jeweller kidnapped in April was found in the underground water tank of a PECHS bungalow on Friday. Police said information about the body was provided by the accused involved in the crime following their arrest. Shaikh Mohammad Aslam, 48, owner of a jewellery shop on Tariq Road, was kidnapped on April 25 by unknown persons from Khadda Market. Later, the police found his car parked on Khayaban-i-Shamsheer. A case (FIR 223/2008) was registered against unknown suspects at the Darakhshan police station.
LAHORE: Jail officials on Friday claimed to have arrested a Camp Jail warden with a mobile phone and a half kilogramme of charas, which they said was being supplied to the prisoners. Warden Muhammad Akram was working in the Camp Jail for the past 30 years. The jail officials said that on Friday, when Akram entered the jail to assume his duties, fellow warden, Riaz, had searched him in the presence of Assistant Superintendent of Police Ali Cheema.
