Rawalpindi: 18-tonne flour smuggling attempt foiled, two arrested
RAWALPINDI: Police on Monday foiled an attempt to smuggle 18 tonnes of flour to Butkhela, NWFP, at Chakri interchange impounding a truck and arresting two accused. The Chauntra police on receiving information that flour was being smuggled to NWFP stopped a truck (0046NWFP) at Chakri Interchange and recovered 250 flour bags of 40 kg each and 500 bags of 20 kg each. Police arrested truck driver Muhammad Yaqoob and his helper Saeed Iqbal and registered cases against them.
City Police Officer (CPO) Rao Muhammad Iqbal has directed the police to improve security at all exit points of Rawalpindi district to foil any flour smuggling attempt in future. Meanwhile, Westridge police also foiled an attempt to smuggle 100 bags of flour to NWFP at Hameeda Check Post. During checking of a bus (P-2171) 100 bags of flour were recovered. Police also arrested two accused namely Noorul Islam and Alam Zeb.
10 arrested Moreover, the Rawalpindi police arrested 10 accused and recovered illegal weapons and 42 bottles of liquor from them. Those arrested have been identified as Fahim, Ghulam Habib, Yaqoob Khan, Abdur Rauf, Wajid, Kamran, Anwar Shah, Sheher Yar and Basit Allauddin.
