Lahore: Man killed by soil diggers
LAHORE: A group of armed men shot dead a middle aged man when he stopped them from digging on his land alongside River Ravi in Shahdara Town police precinct on Monday. Police said the victim, identified as Nadeem Iqbal (45), a resident of Gulshan-e-Ravi, on Monday saw some people digging on his land and loading on tractor trolleys. He warned them and tried to stop them on which both parties exchanged hot words and fought.
The accused; identified as Moju, Shukar Elahi alias Pappu and three unknown accomplices; opened fire on Nadeem and left him injured. Iqbal was taken to a hospital, but died on the way. Police took the body to the city morgue for autopsy and registered a case against the killers on the complaint of the victim’s brother, Javed Iqbal. No arrests were made so far.
Businessman’s son kidnapped Kidnappers kidnapped a 25-year-old man in Naulakha for a ransom of Rs 2.5 million, Daily Times learnt on Monday. Police said the victim’s father, Muhammad Yousuf, a businessman, ran a workshop at Sarai Sultan in Naulakha and was sitting with his son, Sadaqat and his friends, Malik Sikandar and Ashraf. They said a person, Jamshed Khan, went to the spot and took Sadaqat along with him, saying that he wanted Sadaqat’s help to purchase cloth. Khan said he was staying at a nearby hotel and would send Sadaqat back after purchasing the cloth.
Yousuf told the police that when his son did not return after a long time, he checked with the hotel Khan had told he was staying at and noted the check-in and check-out times of Khan and his three friends, Zakir Khan, Shabbir Khan and Gul Khan.
Yousuf alleged that Khan had kidnapped his son and was demanding Rs 2.5 million in ransom. The police registered a case against Jamshed Khan and launched a search for him. Three found dead. Three people were found dead under mysterious circumstances in various localities in the city on Monday. A 25-year-old, yet to be identified, was found dead in River Ravi near Sagian Bridge in Shahdara.
The police said the victim was strangulated after being severely tortured about three days ago. A passer-by observed the dead body lying on the riverside and told the police about it. The police took the body to the city morgue for autopsy, but are still clueless about the killers and the victim’s identities.
Separately, a 60-year-old man was found dead near Data Darbar. A passer-by saw the body and informed the police about it. The police took the body to the city morgue. They said the victim was an addict and died of a drug overdose and hot weather.
Separately, a 40-year-old unidentified man died of hot weather in the Nawankot police precincts. Edhi official said that the person was lying unconscious on the roadside and was shifted to a hospital where doctors pronounced him dead. The police said that the deceased had died of heat. The dead body was taken to the city morgue for autopsy.
