KARACHI: Tariq Khan, the vice president of PML-N Sindh, was shot dead on Friday night. According to initial reports, two men on motorcycles chased Khan and opened fire on his vehicle when he was returning home from Bahadurabad. Ferozabad SHO Kanwar Asif said that the men shot at Khan eight times when his vehicle got stuck in traffic. He said that Khan died on the spot after being shot in the heart. Due to the nature of the killing, several senior police officers reached the scene to investigate.

Three days Khan’s body was taken to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) in a private vehicle and later to his house. No FIR had been registered till the filing of this report. The PML-N has announced three days of mourning. Several PML-N activists, including Saleem Zia, reached JPMC and condemned the assassination. Some angry activists also fired guns. “It is shocking news for me and others,” Zia said. “And it is a continuation of terrorism in Karachi. Those involved in violence for twenty years in the city are responsible for his death,” he added. Khan contested for PS-127 in the February 18 general elections but lost. He was one of the first people arrested when Nawaz Sharif’s government was dissolved on October 12, 1998.
