Rawalpindi: Inmate escapes under wardens’ noses
RAWALPINDI: Saddar Bairooni police have registered a case against three Adiala Jail officials, including the head warden, after escape of an inmate from the jail on Friday, Daily Times has learnt. Jail sources said that the inmate, Waheed Khan, was sentenced to three-month imprisonment by a military court for indiscipline and sent to jail. He had served one month of the sentence.
On Friday morning, the jail staff shifted Khan to the cattle pen for cleaning. Head Warden Muhammad Ilyas and two other wardens, Suleman and Younus, were ‘watching over’ him when he managed to escape. A case has been registered against the three wardens and investigations started.
A week ago, Nauman Qaisar, who was convicted in an abduction for ransom case, had escaped from the District Headquarters Hospital (DHQ) where he was to undergo an operation. Ganjmandi police had registered a case against two wardens and a doctor and started investigations.
The convict is still at large. Following the escape of the convict, the Punjab Prisons Department had suspended Adiala Jail Superintendent Rana Abdur Rauf and Deputy Superintendent Athar Jan.
