Karachi: Nine held in separate raids
KARACHI: The Crime Investigation Department (CID) arrested a mobile snatcher during a routine patrol from Jail Chowrangi on Monday. CID DSP Mazhar Mashwani said that the CID has been deploying plain-clothed personnel at various sensitive areas as described by the Citizens Police Liaisons Committee (CPLC). He said that these areas include Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Jail Chowrangi, Lyari and others, pointed out by the CPLC.
He described that two armed men came on a motorbike and tried to snatch the mobile phone of a passerby near Jail Chowrangi. The CID personnel intercepted them on the spot and the dacoits opened fire on them in a bid to escape. One of them, Sarfaraz Jan Muhammad, was caught red-handed while his accomplice managed to flee. The CID recovered two snatched phones from his possession.
ACLU arrest eight car lifters Anti Car Lifting Unit (ACLU), Police, during different raids in separate areas of the metropolis on Monday, arrested eight vehicle lifters and recovered nine vehicles and weapons from their possession.
“Special teams have been formed to prevent the lifting and shifting of vehicles from the city to other parts of the country,” said ACLU Chief SSP Khurram Waris. “The arrests were made during checks at different areas, such as Sea View, Kyaban-e-Ittehad, Super Highway and University Road, on the directives of Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Sultan Salauddin Babar Khattak.”
According to details, the police arrested three car lifters, Mohammad Hayat alias Farooq, Khalid Ali alias Sain and Wasim, during checking of vehicles at Khayaban-e-Ittehad, Sea View. They claim to have recovered three TT pistols and a snatched Honda City from their possession. This car was snatched from Darakshan Police Station (PS) and FIR number 238/08 was registered against it. The police recovered three more vehicles from different parts of the city after confession by the arrested men.
Similarly, the police arrested two men, Mukhtar Ahmed and Safder Hussain, from University Road, Suparco. They claim to have recovered one motorcycle from their possession. This motorcycle was snatched within the jurisdiction of the Preedy PS.
During checking at Super Highway, three car lifters, Mohammad Pervaiz, Hafiz Rehman and Mohammad Sarwar were arrested and one snatched car was recovered from their possession. Their confession led to the recovery of three more stolen vehicles. According to SP Waris, the carjackers have confessed all their plans during the initial interrogation. Teams will now be sent to the different cities to follow up.
