Khar: Kidnapped WAPDA officials still missing
KHAR: Four Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) officials kidnapped from the Bajaur Agency on Saturday are still missing, and WAPDA officials have now stopped working in the agency following the abduction of their colleagues.
Unknown men kidnapped four WAPDA officials on Saturday from the Rashakai area, approximately six kilometres from the agency headquarters in Khar. The kidnapped officials were identified as linemen Azmatullah, Raihan and Ghulam Nabi, and their driver Hanifullah. No one has claimed responsibility for the abduction.
WAPDA officials have stopped working in the agency to protest the kidnapping. They have said that they would not carry out their duties until their colleagues were safely recovered. Load shedding in the summer is causing increasing problems for the public and some areas of the agency have not received any electricity for the last two days. Load shedding has also resulted in water shortages in the area and businesses have come to a standstill. The public is demanding that WAPDA officials resume the electricity supply to the agency areas facing blackouts, while the political authorities have started searching for the kidnapped officials.
