‘Desperado’ killed in shootout
LAHORE: Allama Iqbal Town police on Tuesday killed a ‘bold criminal’ in a shootout. Two of his accomplices, however, fled. Allama Iqbal Town Station House Officer (SHO) Inspector Riaz Abbas said that Shahid alias Sheedi had a bounty of Rs 500,000 on his head.
“On Tuesday morning (4am) I was tipped off about three men with weapons robbing people in Ravi Block.” He said he formed a team and ambushed the robbers. He said the robbers had fired at the police and the police shot back. He said after a two-hour long shootout the police found Sheedi dead. He said Sheedi’s accomplices, Abdul Jabbar and Maulvi Ehsan fled. He said Sheedi was wanted for having committed more than 50 murders and robberies. On June 15, the SHO said, Sheedi had killed a trader, Ghulam Rasool, in Ghalib Market for resisting a robbery attempt. The police sent Sheedi’s body to the morgue for autopsy and informed his family in Nankana Sahib about his death.
