Karachi: 4 killed, 3 held, explosives, weapons recovered
KARACHI: Two police officers were killed and at least four, including two civilians, were injured when terrorists attacked a police mobile unit in Hub City, an incident in which the police claims to have arrested three terrorists and recovered explosives and weapons from their possession.
A police mobile unit, headed by Sub Inspector (SI) Abdul Khalil was on routine patrol when four people on two motorcycles attacked the mobile unit. According to DSP Jamil Zehri, the mobile in-charge was the target. The police unit retaliated and the encounter lasted for three to four hours. However, SHO Hub Abdullah Jan Afridi told Daily Times that the attackers and the arrested men were affiliated with Baloch terrorist organizations but the exact organization was not known. The terrorists used Kalashnikovs and two policemen, Karim Bux and Barsat alias Commando, were killed while Khalil and Police Constable Anwar sustained bullet wounds.
Following the incident, a heavy contingent of law enforcers arrived in a bid to catch the attackers. The assailants sought refuge in a house nearby on the main RCD Thoroughfare. The police arrested three armed men, one of them injured. One of the arrested men was identified as Gul Khan and the police claimed to have recovered nearly four kilograms of explosives, hand grenades, motorcycles, a Suzuki Alto and other weapons from their possession. The deceased officer, Karim Bux, was posted at the Balochistan Constabulary while Barsat was posted at Lasbela Police Station as a driver and was driving the mobile unit at the time of the attack.
The others tried to flee from there and entered a factory from where they fled by holding a water tanker driver, Mohammad Saleem, hostage and reached at the Khas Bagh Farm at Haji Chatta Goth and released the driver there. They injured two factory workers. No FIR was registered till filing of this report.
