Karachi: Mehndi turns into funeral as 11-yr old killed
KARACHI: An 11-year-old was killed and three others were injured from aerial firing at a wedding celebration within the jurisdiction of Bahadurabad Police Station (PS). Police has registered a case against the bridegroom and his father, who are both absconding.
The incident took place late night Wednesday at Block-B Adamjee Nagar during the ‘Mehndi’ of resident Mohammad Ali, said SHO Nasir Lodhi. Some of the bridegroom and his brother-in-law’s friends opened aerial fire due to which four guests, Hadi Saleem, Arbaaz, Anis and Ismail, were injured. They were taken to Aga Khan University Hospital where Saleem lost his life.
SHO Lodhi added that the bridegroom and his father, Hanif, went missing when the police came to investigate the incident. The deceased was the cousin of the bridegroom and had arrived in Karachi with his mother the same day to participate in the wedding. Because of the close relationship between the two families, a truce has been settled upon, he added.
Accused Ali and his father have their own private business while the deceased’s father works in Dubai. Ali’s marriage had been arranged in his relatives.
The deceased’s body was taken to his maternal house in Gulshan-e-Iqbal Town. Police have registered FIR No. 133/08, against the bridegroom and his father on behalf of the state, added the officer. A ban on aerial firing during wedding ceremonies was imposed by former Sindh Chief Minister Advisor Wasim Ahmed.
