Karachi: Arrest warrants in Zardari torture case
KARACHI: Additional District & Sessions Judge South Karachi Irfan Hussain reissued on Saturday non-bailable arrest warrants for ex-IG Sindh Rana Maqbool, ex-DIG Farooq Amin Qureshi, Pakistan Cricket Board ex-chairman Mujibur Rehman and his brother former senator Saifur Rehman and ex-Jail Superintendent Karachi Najaf Mirza in a case of torturing Pakistan People’s Party Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari in May 1999.
According to the prosecution, the Anti-Terrorism Court transferred Zardari from jail to police custody in May 1999, during which time he alleged to have been tortured by the aforesaid accused in order to extract from him confessional and self-incriminatory statements in pending cases. A police official told the court that Mujibur Rehman and Saifur Rehman were not in the country and a letter for their arrest by Interpol had been sent to the Home Ministry. Ppi
