Lahore: ACE registers case against nazims and policemen
LAHORE: The Anti Corruption Establishment (ACE) Headquarters on Monday registered a case against seven suspects including a Gujrat tehsil nazim, Manawal naib nazim, Karyanwala Police Station station house officer (SHO), sub-inspector, head constable and moharrar for looting Rs 14 million at gunpoint and threatening to kill a British-Pakistani citizen in a fake encounter.
According to details a British Pakistani National Haji Muhammad Ilyas complained to ACE Director General (DG) Tariq Saleem Dogar against Gujrat Tehsil Nazim Chaudhry Saadat Nawaz, Manawal Naib Nazim Saleem Akhtar, Karyanwala Police Station SHO Muhammad Safdar Warachi, Sub-Inspector Muhammad Ashraf Malhai, Head Constable Ghulam Sarwar, Moharrar Muhammad Ashraf and Baber Hussain for acquiring his property illegally and looting valuables worth thousands of rupees before he returned to the country. He said that when he returned to his village, Baber Hussain and his accomplices subjected him to severe torture and handed him over to police officials, who put him in the lock-up after registering a case against him. Haji Muhammad Ilyas in his complaint alleged that when the court sent him to the jail, the police officials registered another fake case of kidnapping for ransom against him and got his remand in the case.
He said that the police officials, tehsil nazim and naib nazim then subjected him to severe torture in a private cell. He said that during his remand the suspects took cheques worth Rs 14 million from him after threatening to kill him in a fake encounter. Dogar had ordered ACE deputy director general to inquire into the matter, who found all the allegations true after which a case has been registered against the suspects with ACE Headquarters.
