Unidentified men blow up van in Hanjarwal
LAHORE: Unidentified men blew up a van with explosives in Hanjarwal Police precinct on Sunday night. No casualties were reported. The police said the van was parked outside a house in Mamdot Block, Mustafa Town, when it exploded. The explosion damaged the vehicle, leaving a big crater underneath, the police added.
They said the van’s owner Rana Nawaz was in his house when the vehicle was blown up. The locals called the police who reached the scene and registered a case against unidentified suspects on the complaint of Nawaz. Nawaz told police that he had old rivalry back in Rana Town, Ferozewala, where he had some land. He said he took his bodyguards on that van whenever he had visited his land. “My rivals could not explode my vehicle,” he said, adding that his van looked like that of a law enforcement agency, and that it was terrorist act. However, Saddar Division Superintendent of Police (SP) Faisal Ali said the incident was the outcome of an old enmity with van’s owner Nawaz. Nawaz was accused of five murders, he added. The SP denied it was a terrorist act and that Nawaz’s van had any resemblance with that of a law enforcement agency.
