Lahore: Police inspector, constable suspended on rape charges
LAHORE: A police inspector and a constable were suspended on Tuesday on the charge of raping a 19-year-old girl from Faisalabad, according to a Punjab police spokesman. The victim had submitted an application to the Inspector General of Police (IG) Shaukat Javed against Faisalabad Rescue 15 In-charge Inspector Muhammad Ali and Constable Zafar Ilyas.
IG Javed ordered Deputy Inspector General (Inspection and Vigilance) Zafar Iqbal Qureshi to carry out investigations. The inquiry report revealed that the victim used to visit the police lines. Constable Zafar Ilyas had received Rs 285,000 from the girl to get her employed in the police department. But the constable allegedly raped her by promising her that he would marry her and later she was also raped by Inspector Muhammad Ali.
On the report of the DIG, IG Shaukat Javed suspended Inspector Muhammad Ali and Constable Zafar Ilyas and ordered that a case be registered against them. Both the accused police officials were later arrested. Javed warned that action would be taken against the police officials who increase the problems of people instead of providing relief.
