Lahore: Man killed over property dispute: Police baton charge relatives demanding killers’ arrest
LAHORE: The police late on Wednesday night fired in the air and baton charged Nazar Bhatti’s relatives who were protesting against the police for not arresting his killers. Bhatti died in Jinnah Hospital on Thursday after being shot by three men in a property dispute in Sabzazar.
Ahmad Khan, a witness, told Daily Times that Bhatti, who was a resident of Awan Town, and his friend Waqas alias Vicky were shot and injured by three men Irfan, Arshad alias Achoo and Faisal Jutt in a property issue near Kharak Stop on Multan Road. He said the injured were taken to Jinnah hospital where Bhatti died on Thursday.
The Bhatti’s relatives said they had protested against the police for not arresting the killers. They blocked Multan Road after laying Bhatti’s body on the road near Kharak Stop and raised slogans against the police. The witness said the police reached the scene and tried to disperse the protestors by firing in the air. He said the protestors pelted stones on the police. Later, the police had to baton charge Bhatti’s relatives to resume traffic on the road, he added.
SHO: Sabzazar Police Station House Officer Shahzaib said the protestors had pelted stone on them. The police had to baton charge the mob in self-defence, he added. However, he said the police had not fired in the air.
