Mob action against Murree ‘brothels’
MURREE: Police along with various social and religion organisations raided three hotels allegedly running brothels and arrested 23 women and 19 men on Wednesday. The police also seized 150 bottles of liquor and a large cache of weapons from their possession.
A large crowd, including tourists, paraded the arrested people, their faces blackened and hands tied with ropes, to the Murree Police Station via the Mall Road.
A scuffle between the crowd and a military guard was averted by army officials and citizens. The guard pointed his gun towards the crowd when it tried to cross the army checkpost he was manning.
Social and political leaders addressed the crowd outside the police station. They condemned “prostitution in the city”, adding that this practice had ruined Murree’s cultural traditions. They gave a 48-hours ultimatum to hotels allegedly running brothels to mend their ways or face action.
