Lahore: Case registered against ‘negligent’ WASA officials
LAHORE: Ghalib Market Police on Monday registered a case against 11 Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) officials for showing negligence in duty, the police said.
The police said they arrested the WASA officials in a raid at the Gulberg WASA director office on Sunday night, after receiving a complaint from the chief secretary. The officials were WASA Operations Director Aftab Dhilon, Director Sarfaraz Shah, Deputy Managing Director Qazi Faiyaz, Sub–Divisional Officer (SDO) Abu-Bakkar, Gulberg Drain SDO Amir Khalil, Township SDO Muhammad Ashraf, Mozang SDO Suhail Ashraf, SDOs Munir Hussain and Suhail Aslam Sandhu, Sub-Engineering Kashif Hameed and Executive Engineer Tanvir Qaisar.
The police registered the case but did not present the arrested before the court on Monday. A Ghalib Market Police official said they would present the accused before the courts on Tuesday (today). He said the accused could be sentenced to one to five years’ imprisonment. Separately, an Anti Corruption Establishment (ACE) committee had been formed under the supervision of ACE Director Tariq Saleem Dogar to enquire the embezzlements in WASA’s funds, an ACE official said.
