Lahore: LHC takes notice of murder convict’s torture
LAHORE: Lahore High Court Chief Justice Syed Zahid Hussain has taken suo moto notice on a news item of torture of a murder convict by Camp Jail authorities.
The news was published on July 13 in which it was reported that the jail authorities had tortured the convict and broken his leg. The CJ converted the news into a writ petition and ordered the LHC registrar to hand over the case to Justice Khalil Ahmed, who will initiate proceedings today (Wednesday). The victim, Muzaffar Hussain alias Chand, was not medically examined despite an additional sessions judge’s orders for the purpose. The case says that Deputy Superintendent Niazi and Assistant Superintendent Malik Liaqat had tortured Hussain on the orders of Camp Jail Superintendent Gulzar Butt. Hussain has been convicted of murdering a sub-inspector is in Camp Jail.
