Lahore: Criminal gang busted
LAHORE: Model Town Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) on Friday arrested five members of a criminal gang, who they said were involved in a number of robberies in the city. According to a police handout, the accused confessed to about 45 incidents during preliminary interrogations. The criminals were arrested by a special team formed on the direction of CIA Superintendent of Police (SP) Muhammad Umer Virk that consisted of CIA Model Town in charge and other officials, following a tip off.
Apart from entering houses and looting valuables at gunpoint, the gang was also involved in incidents of jewellery, cash and cell phone snatching. Around 11 previous cases have been traced against them in various police stations of the city.
The areas where the criminals mainly operated include Model Town, Wahdat Colony, Factory area, Nisther Colony and Gulberg. The police seized 10 mobile phones, Rs 11,000 in cash, two pistols and bullets from them. The arrested were identified as Shakeel, Khalil, Dilawar, Imran Ashiq and Aqeel. Capital City Police Officer Muhammad Pervez Rathore announced commendatory certificates and cash prizes for the police team.
